Cataract Surgical

 

Cataracts usually strike the elderly and is the most eye disease in Indonesia. In fact, the population of cataract patients in Indonesia is the highest in Southeast Asia. Cataract patients each year in Indonesia increased by about 200 thousand people. Cataracts occur because of changes in the eye lens which was originally clear and translucent, become turbid. The cause is largely due to aging. Due to muddy lenses the light is difficult to reach the retina so that vision is distracted.


To overcome this, the cloudy lens from the eye had to be removed through surgery and then replaced with an artificial lens. Usually to remove the cloudy lens of the eye and to instill a new lens required an incision of the damaged lens, about 9 millimeters. Flanks eyes wide enough and then slashed with broken lenses removed intact through an incision earlier. Next new artificial lens is inserted as a replacement. After that, the incision wound is closed with stitches.

Now there is technology that is using the latest cataract surgery techniques Catarast Micro Incision Surgery (MICS). With this latest teknih eye surgery, an incision is needed only as wide as 1.8 millimeters to eject and insert the lens. So small incision is then no longer needed stitches to close wounds and incisions were also more rapid recovery so it is likely to occur cylinder disorders of the eye (astigmatism) as a result of cataract was also getting smaller. Patients did not need to be anesthetized using general anesthesia, local anesthesia enough so that the patient can recover quickly in just a week.

Engineering process begins by connecting a thin hollow needle with fakoemulsifikasi machine, then slid the needle into the eye through a small incision width of 1.8 millimeters. Needles will be vibrated with ultrasonic vibration to the eye lenses were destroyed. Small bits of water flowed past the lens and then sucked out through a needle before. After that a new artificial lens implanted into the eye to replace the old lens function. This entire process only takes about 15 minutes, and after resting the patient directly home bias.
Along with the presence of MICS techniques, planting lens technology developing too rapidly. Now the lens of planting has been made of elastic material that easily rolled up (foldable lens). With rolled up very small, the lens can be inserted easily into the eye through an incision 1.8 millimeters. Currently there are 2 types of planting replacement lenses for cataract patients monofokal lens that is used only to improve sight distance and multifocal lens capable of correcting vision far and near. In monofokal lens users, patients need glasses to help close the distance or reading vision, while multifocal lens users no longer need to use glasses.
Treatment of cataracts is not biased at random. The best technology requires an experienced practitioner as well as operator and the appropriate lens. MICS technique is still very rare in Indonesia as well as the availability of planting a very small lens pleats. Currently only available in Indonesia at the Jakarta Eye Centre.
